Taxes

“I am in favor of cutting taxes under any circumstances and for any excuse, for any reason, whenever it’s possible.”  – Milton Friedman

I pledge that I will do everything I can to reduce the tax burden on Tennessee citizens including never vote for a state income tax. I also propose that we remove the sales tax on food, provide property tax relief for seniors, veterans, and farmers, and attempt to cap the total tax burden on Tennessee residents and businesses. Taxes should support the government systems that protect our freedoms, which we cannot defend. Charity is an individual responsibility. Allowing governments to redistribute wealth, however noble the reason, is to legalize theft by the majority against the individual. James Madison said, “I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents.” Ayn Rand stated, “A society that robs an individual of the product of his effort … is not strictly speaking a society, but a mob held together by institutionalized gang violence.”
